An Inner Voice is an immersive virtual reality audiovisual piece with binaural sound. The founding idea of this proposal is to imagine and develop an experience that places the viewer at the convergence of four complexities that, in our understanding, constitute the contemporary musical experience: the sound event, the listening space, the sound sources, and the visualization of sound. The spatial development dialogues with the sound construction: volatile elements, luminous arches, and mountain ranges revolve around the viewer in sync with voices, choirs, and whispers. The concentric organization of elements strengthens the immersive concept of the work, while the lighting creates a gloomy atmosphere. Individually or collectively, the members of this team have worked on projects that address the same quest: visible, sonic, and habitable spaces in which the audience can join in a musical performance. An Inner Voice reflects the search for an intimate, dystopian, and fantastical sonic spatiality. This project is supported by the Metropolitan Fund for Culture, Arts, and Sciences.
